WASHINGTON - The White House is discussing plans to authorize around 6 billion dollars in emergency funding to deal with the devastation wrought by Hurricane Harvey, local media reported late Thursday. An estimated 100,000 homes have been damaged since Harvey slammed into Texas nearly a week ago, with rescue and relief operations still ongoing. Homeland security advisor Tom Bossert had earlier said the White House planned to request supplemental disaster spending from Congress to begin to address the damage to property and costs to state and local governments. Harvey made landfall in Texas a week ago as a category-4 hurricane, bringing record-breaking rains that reached 125 centimetres near Houston. Forecasts warned of continued rain, approaching 50 centimetres in Louisiana, as Harvey moved northward into Arkansas.
