Trade Me Property’s latest Rental Price Index put the national median weekly rent at $550 in July, up from the previous record of $545 in June. It was followed by Manawatū/Whanganui with annual growth of 15 per cent which put its median rent at $460. Supplied Trade Me Property sales director Gavin Lloyd says rental demand still outweighs supply. Of the regions, Canterbury and Nelson/Tasman had the largest annual uplift in rental demand, up by 26 per cent and 18 per cent respectively. Upper Hutt and Lower Hutt overtook Wellington City to become the most expensive districts in the Wellington region for the first time last month.
