KG Subramanyan was famous for his terracotta murals, glass paintings, illustrated children’s books and works on canvas that drew upon myth, memory and traditionK.G. Subramanyan, who was active during the Quit India struggle, studied at Kala Bhavan, Visva Bharati University, in Shantiniketan between 1944 and 1948. After returning from a fellowship at the Slade School of Art, University of London, in 1956, he went on to participate in the Sao Paolo and Tokyo biennales. Subramanyan played many roles, not the least as mentor to a whole generation of artists, critics and writers. Subramanyan, one of the pioneers of Indian modern art.
