The government has yet to make any significant headway in implementing 18 projects for generating electricity from renewable energy, particularly from solar power. The state-owned Power Development Board (PDB) has signed agreements with private-sector entrepreneurs for 1,050MW power plant projects, and has also signed power purchase deals with five of them. According to Renewable Energy Policy 2008, Bangladesh had set a target of generating 10% of total electricity or 2,000MW, from renewable energy sources by 2020. Usually, a solar power plant requires three to four acres of land to generate each megawatt of electricity.”“Many are blaming the shortage of land. The deal was inked for a 200MW solar power plant to be set up at Teknaf.
