Carlos Ghosn, head of the Renault-Nissan Alliance, stands next to a Nissan electric hatchback concept vehicle at the 2015 Tokyo Motor Show. The joint venture, unveiled Tuesday, plans to produce a small sport-utility vehicle at Dongfeng’s plant in Shiyan in 2019, the Renault-Nissan alliance said. The vehicle will be based on an SUV platform developed by the alliance, it said. Nissan and Dongfeng have an existing joint venture to produce conventionally powered vehicles. Nissan and Renault will each own 25% of the latest joint venture, and Dongfeng will hold the remaining 50%.
