I met Lokman 20 years ago when, as a mid-level American diplomat based in Amman, I visited book publishers in Beirut. Lokman and his sister Rasha, a dynamic figure in her own right, ran a wonderful Arabic publishing house, Dar al-Jadeed [1]. [3]A later documentary of the year (2016) directed by filmmaker Monika Bergmann, Lokman Slim's wife, focused on the famous Tadmor prison in Syria.
