GEORGE TOWN: The remand of the 36-year-old antique dealer and his 29-year-old female friend who allegedly stole the Reclining Buddha statue from the Penang Buddhist Association has been extended by two days. George Town CID chief Deputy Supt Helmi Sulaiman said the duo were brought to the court for extension of remand after the first remand expired on Sunday (Dec 24). DSP Helmi added that if the DPP's office accepts the prosecution, the duo are expected to be charged on Tuesday at noon. The foot-long marble statue is believed to be more than 90 years old and worth RM10,000. Security camera footage showed two people stealing the statue on Dec 11.
