AdvertisementArchaeologists digging in the grounds of Bamburgh Castle have discovered the remains of a roundhouse which dates back to the end of the Roman era. The roundhouse predates the imposing Bamburgh Castle which it now neighbours. It is believed the castle was first constructed in the sixth century, at least 500 years after the end of Britain's Roman occupation. Previous excavations at Bamburgh Castle from the 1960s found the site was occupied for around 3,000 years. 'This [discovery of the roundhouse] gives us a window that is effectively prehistoric, which we know little about because there are no written records,' Mr Young adds.
