KUALA LUMPUR: A parent of one of the students who survived the fire at a religious school in Jalan Datuk Keramat here, said his son and friends had to break windows to escape to safety. He then rushed to the scene and found that fire had spread rapidly on the third floor of the building. "My son and his friends who managed to break the windows scrambled out and jumped onto the awning, causing it to collapse. They were aided by the people who were waiting at the basement of the building," he told reporters at the Kuala Lumpur Hospital (HKL) Emergency Ward on Wednesday. He added that the school, which was built following contributions from the surau, had been operating for only about a year.
