It celebrates the Virginia Statute for Religious Freedom, written by Thomas Jefferson, and passed by the Virginia Assembly on January 16, 1786. It became the basis for the religious freedom section of the First Amendment to the U.S. Constitution. Unfortunately, it is now under threat here in “the land of the free.”In January 2018, I posted A Dangerous Silence in Public Schools for the Religious Freedom Day series. And coincidentally, the religious freedom of any of their employees to believe that abortion is not a sin wasn’t protected either. While some may think this is upholding Religious Freedom, or that it is no big deal, what this majority of Justices have done is nullify the other part of Religious Freedom – the right to freedom from Religion.
