Relief — but also concern — for Ontario families as schools set to reopen

News that Ontario schools will reopen Monday for in-person learning came with a mix of emotions for parents. Then, Premier Doug Ford — warning of a “tsunami” of COVID-19 cases — said kids would learn online until at least Jan. 17. “Things have been done to improve the situation and make (schools) safer — masks, HEPA filters and improving ventilation,” she said. As of Monday, 47 per cent of Toronto kids five to 11 had received at least one shot of the vaccine. The York Region District School Board said schools may encounter challenges obtaining replacement coverage.
