Released Marinera sailors 'did not want to go back to Ukraine'

Another 16 Ukrainian citizens were on board the Marinera when it was seized, but all were released on January 26. However, Suspline states that none of the 16 who were released wanted to return to Ukraine. The Bella-1 then raised a Russian flag, according to the sailors, likely in the belief the U.S would not seize a Russian ship. Sailors said he has a Russian passport, holds pro-Russian views, and was in regular conflict with the Ukrainian crew. According to Suspline, none of those they spoke to planned to return to Ukraine as they feared persecution and being accused of treason having sailed on the Marinera.
