Meru deputy governor Titus Ntochiu wants the National Treasury to ensure early release of funds to avoid huge pending bills. Ntochiu said when Governor Kiraitu Murungi took office in September 2017, Sh3.2 billion had not been released by the Treasury. “The release of Sh800 million per month is not enough to pay salaries, operational expenses and contractors," he said. The deputy governor said the Auditor General should make recommendations to the Treasury for early release of funds. He said Meru county owed contractors and suppliers about Sh2 billion but insisted they will pay their pending bills as ordered by President Uhuru Kenyatta.
