The “clues from today,” let’s call them, were a little outrageous, but they were tempered by some elegance, nostalgia and wine. The “fat” corners in the northwest and southeast were harder than their opposites, but as a whole, it was a really fun solve. Tricky CluesThere are three vernacular entries today — two of them debuts — that are bound to get a reaction from many solvers. The other two, which crossed each other in cunning fashion and were very disarmingly clued, were 26D, BUTT DIALED, and 46A, FLIP PHONES. One of my more estimable colleagues actually wrote a guide on how to avoid this problem.
