Tenants in some of Auckland's surrounding regions are seeing sometimes double digit rent rises compared to their metropolitan cousins. Median weekly asking rents on Trade Me in Auckland have risen to $510 a week, up just 3 per cent or $15. There were also strong asking rent rises in the Manawatu/Wanganui (up 14 per cent), Otago (13.3 per cent) and Hawke's Bay (6.3 per cent). ​Tenants in Christchurch were enjoying a fall in median weekly rents for the 14th month in a row, as the accommodation shortage there eased.
