Reform in International Crimes Tribunal soon

The Ministry of Law, Justice and Parliamentary Affairs is set to reform the International Crimes Tribunal in a bid to accelerate judicial services. Former chairman of International Crimes Tribunal 1 Justice Anwarul Haque died on July 13 and the other two judges of the tribunal have only fixed new dates for cases. As per the International Crimes (Tribunal) Act 1973, the tribunal will be comprised of three members – one chairman and two members. The government formed the International Crimes Tribunal in March 25, 2010, to try the perpetrators of crimes against humanity during the Liberation War in 1971. To cope with an increasing number of cases, another tribunal termed the International Crimes Tribunal 2 was launched on March 22, 2012, which has not been in operation since the latest reform on September 15, 2015.
