It was a drizzly evening in Rome on March 13, 2013. All eyes were glued to the small balcony on the façade of St Peter’s Cathedral, and suddenly the slight, white-robed figure of Pope Francis stepped through. A massive rolling cheer rose from the crowd. The loud acclamation went on and on . Tens of thousands of people looked at him.
