Referendum bill is crucialThe delay in the proceedings of the referendum bill last week prompted public concerns over attempts to shoot down the legislation, even though chief government whip Wirach Ratanasate tried to quell such fears. The chief government whip said Senator Surachai Liangboonlertchai, who chairs the committee vetting the referendum bill, has pledged to finish reviewing it next week. They could then initiate another bill to amend the referendum bill to return it to its original version. There are no excuses to allow this vital referendum bill which is tied to charter amendments to be aborted. On the contrary, the government must do whatever it can to save this bill so charter change can happen.
