Rosco Contracting has dropped its application for consent to dump waste from Christchurch's Ravensdown fertiliser plant at its landfill about 500m from the Inangahua River near Reefton. The Reefton company that had been planning to take contaminated waste from Christchurch has now pulled out of the deal. The waste – mainly contaminated soil and asbestos fines – was to have been buried in sealed pods at the private dump on the outskirts of Reefton. A packed meeting of the Inangahua Community Board last week heard from several Reefton residents unhappy with the Ravensdown waste proposal.
