The reproduction rate—or the number of people that one COVID-19 positive case can infect—is now at 2.1 in Metro Manila, OCTA Research fellow Guido David said in an interview with CNN Philippines. “If we want to reduce the number of cases, that means we have to reduce the reproduction number from 2.1 all the way down to 1. David said it took 28 days to reduce the reproduction number when the country experienced a surge in COVID-19 cases in August 2020. The national government expects to reduce the number of new COVID-19 infections by at least 25% within the next two weeks. The Philippines recorded Monday 8,019 additional COVID-19 cases, the highest single-day since the pandemic began, bringing the total caseload to 671,792.
