The Washington Redskins will hire Torrian Gray to become their next defensive backs coach, a person with knowledge of the situation confirmed on Saturday. Gray spent last season coaching defensive backs for the Florida Gators. Prior to that, the 42-year-old spent 10 years at Virginia Tech serving as a defensive secondary coach and a passing game coordinator. He spent two seasons as the Chicago Bears assistant defensive backs coach, starting in 2004, under then-head coach Lovie Smith before going back to Virginia Tech. Washington fired defensive backs coach Perry Fewell last month and attempted to promote former assistant defensive back coach Aubrey Pleasant, but the two sides couldn’t negotiate a deal.
