Rumored to be a trade candidate for the Cincinnati Reds as recently as last week, even as they are in playoff position and are definitely not “selling,” I’m thinking infielder Jonathan India may be off the market now. India has been out since Saturday as he deals with plantar fasciitis, and the Reds just put him on the Injured List. The thinking had been that India, the 2021 Rookie of the Year, could be utilized by the Reds to acquire some pitching, since the Reds have an overload of young infielders. This year, he’s hitting .251/.336/.409/97 wRC+ and rates as a below average defender at second base. So the Reds’ reserves of trade ammo just took a hit.
