The attitudes of these two red-billed gulls indicates that there has been a disagreement as to which bird gets a feed of fish first. Red-billed gulls can usually be seen around many of our coastal beaches and of the frequent suburbs and cities especially if there is food to be found. Control of these pests has shown that red-billed gull populations can recover where there is an organised control programme. Outside of the breeding season the red-billed gulls diet is highly variable. Recent estimates indicate that there could well be more kiwi in New Zealand than there are red-billed gullsWe need to protect this attractive gull species.
