Winger Evan Polei’s overtime goal gave the Rebels a 2-1 win and eliminated the Brandon Wheat Kings from the Memorial Cup. The Wheat Kings owned a 33-29 advantage on the shot clock after three periods. And it took them nearly 55 minutes to solve Wheat Kings goaltender Jordan Papirny, who stood on his head in the heartbreaking loss. Wheat Kings GM/head coach Kelly McCrimmon said his team never played to its potential at the Memorial Cup. The Wheat Kings, of course, had punted the Rebels from the WHL playoffs in the Eastern Conference final and Polei admitted Wednesday’s win was extra-sweet.
