A meeting of Roslyn and Kaikorai residents to consider the proposal to endow a bed or beds in the new Red Cross Convalescent Home at Montecillo was held at the Roslyn Salvation Army Barracks on Saturday evening. The movement originated with the Roslyn-Kaikorai branch of the Otago and Southland Women’s Patriotic Association, and there were about 40 people present. At the Costley Home it was hardly possible to see some of the old men for flies. In the Panama Canal for 10 days Dr Keller saw two flies and one mosquito, in a place formerly the white man’s grave. This is further proof (comments the Southland Times), that Southland this season has had just about the best climate in New Zealand.
