Record swimming attempt ends over 3 a.m. bowl of soup between B.C. caretaker and greased-up man

Wayne Strach, who lives in Leduc, had set out from Vernon, B.C., the day before, aiming to break the world record for distance swimming, 135 kilometres to Penticton. About a kilometre later, he realized his support boat was gone. “I was just happy to swim.”Back in his support boat, the atmosphere was far less relaxed.
