Receptionist awarded €51,168 over discrimination after maternity leave


A receptionist has been awarded €51,168 by the Labour Court as compensation for discrimination over how she was treated when she returned to work from maternity leave. The award is the highest available to the Labour Court and is untaxed. The Labour Court decided the offer of work at Ballymount was “less favourable” to Ms Kelly than the work she had before going on maternity leave. Ms Kelly told The Irish Times she was “delighted” with the outcome of the case, and that she had found the whole experience to be very stressful. The WRC adjudication officer had awarded Ms Kelly €11,602.
