Received A “Confirm Your Twitter Account” Email? Don’t Panic

Twitter made a hash of security email warnings gettyTwitter has apologized after it accidentally sent out an email to existing account holders, asking them to confirm the email address on their account. Many long-term account holders were surprised when they suddenly received an email from the company asking them to click on a link to confirm their email address. “Some of you may have recently received an email to ‘confirm your Twitter account’ that you weren’t expecting,” the company said in a tweet. Twitter hasn’t explained what caused the problem and account holders who were sent the confirmation emails don’t seem to be suffering any adverse consequences. Twitter users are strongly advised to turn on two-factor authentication and ensure they’re using strong, unique passwords on the service.
