The US special envoy for the Horn of Africa is warning peace negotiations in Ethiopia risk being outpaced by an alarming military escalation. Ethiopia’s Prime Minister has posted on social media he will personally go to the front line to face armed rebels who are moving closer to the capital Addis Ababa. The civil war has created a humanitarian crisis in Ethiopia – parts of the country are facing famine-like conditions – with 7 million people in need of food aid. More than 2 million people have been displaced, with reports of human rights abuses on both sides.
