Relinquishing duties to which he was committed more than 34 years, Rear Admiral Senarath Wijesooriya retired from naval service (09th April 2021). Thereupon, fellow naval officers made their formal farewells to the outgoing senior officer appreciative of his service rendered to the organization. Subsequently, he was sent off in a motorcade from the Navy Headquarters. Rear Admiral Senarath Wijesooriya joined the Sri Lanka Navy as an officer cadet of the 15th intake in 1986 and had commanded various ships and establishments, during his distinguished naval career.
