Real Madrid beat title-holders Athletic Club 2-0 on Sunday to win the 38th edition of the Supercopa. Goals from Luka Modric, in the 37th minute, and Karim Benzema, from the penalty spot in the 52nd minute, gave Real Madrid the win, as Athletic Club failed to produce a comeback. In the game played at the King Fahd Stadium in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia, Carlo Ancelotti fielded a Real Madrid side different from the one that beat FC Barcelona last Wednesday. Real Madrid and Athletic Club entered into Sunday’s final as the second and third most successful clubs respectively in the competition’s 40-year history. Real now have 12 Super Cup titles, while Basque-based Athletic Club have 3 titles.
