Addressing a gathering as part of activities commemorating 20th years of his ascension of the golden stool, the Asantehene revealed that he had to engage in a marathon meeting with both leaders before peace finally prevailed. After the 2000 elections, Rawlings vowed neither to speak with nor meet Kufuor. “I represent the interest of Ghana and Asanteman. Whether we like it or not the two parties will continue to govern the country but it is also my interest and duty to ensure that peace prevails”, he disclosed.
