Bureaux de change have sought to profit from a slump in the value of sterling, which is at a six-month low against the euro and is close to a two-year low. Last night the pound was worth €1.11. Those who change money at airports are being hit hardest. If a customer exchanged £500 at a rate of €0.80 to the pound they would lose the equivalent of £138 compared with the market rate.
