Perched on a rooftop on Onyx Street in Cypress, the snowy owl arrived without warning in early December, seemingly unaware that it was several hundred miles south of its usual habitat in the arctic regions of North America. According to Cypress resident Roy Rausch, the owl would fly away just before sunset each evening and return to the roof the next morning. “Actually, I would go there first thing in the morning when the sun came up, just to try and see if the cypress snowy owl was still there and spend a little time with it,” Rausch said. Now the snowy owl has left Cypress just as unexpectedly as it came. “It’s a bit sad that she’s gone, but in a good way,” Rausch said.
