Nature enthusiasts are invited to come and help boost biodiversity on a site containing an exceptionally rare plant that grows in only three regions of England. Today, pennyroyal is found on just a few sites in three areas of England, one of which is Bray. Hidden away on land south of the marina on Monkey Island Lane is a 3.4-hectare field, designated a Site of Special Scientific Interest (SSSI), called Bray Pennyroyal Field. By 2023, the Bray pennyroyal population was the healthiest it had been since 1986. It is also an opportunity for those with a passion for ecology to ask NatureBureau’s experts questions about botany, biodiversity and wildlife.
