Rare pink supermoon will appear in the sky this Wednesday

The first full moon of spring, traditionally called the pink moon, will be the biggest and brightest of 2020. In the early hours of Wednesday, the moon will be at its closest point to Earth, appearing 30% brighter and 14% bigger than at its furthest. Emily Drabek-Maunder, an astronomer at the Royal Observatory Greenwich, said: “It’s going to be spectacular.”But it will be its usual golden colour, not pink. The first full moon after the spring equinox is called a pink moon after “moss pink” a wildflower which blooms in North America at this time of year.
