By Michaelangelo Conte| The Jersey Journal|JERSEY CITY — A convicted rapist accused of raping another woman only nine months after being released from prison rejected a plea deal this morning that would land him in prison for up to 35 years. Marquis Gilchrist, 32, is charged with the aggravated sexual assault on a 22-year-old woman, whom he allegedly held at knife-point inside her home on Fairmount Avenue on Aug. 13. Marquis Gilchrist, of Ocean Avenue, is charged with breaking into a 22-year-old’s apartment on Fairmount Avenue and raping her a knifepoint on Aug. 13. Hudson County Assistant Prosecutor John Mulkeen said at today’s hearing that under the state’s offer, Gilchrist would have to plead guilty to two counts of aggravated sexual assault. He would then have to serve 30 years of the prison term before becoming eligible for parole.
