A ninth grader girl has committed suicide in Panchagarh after two youths allegedly kept raping her for the last three months, threatening to circulate videos of the incident online. The victim is Rahima Akter Sonia, 14, daughter of Jaherul Islam of Kalaram Jot village under the district’s Tetulia upazila. Her family members said the rapists – Shamsul Alam Rajan and Atikur Rahman Atik – had periodically raped her over the last three months, blackmailing her with the video footage. Sonia’s parents alleged that police rejected to accept the case since Rajan was using the political identity of his uncle, the MP. However, Tetulia police station’s Officer-in-Charge Sares Chandra said they had lodged an unnatural death case in this connection.
