Former Prime Minister and Leader of the United National Party (UNP) Ranil Wickremesinghe has appealed to President Gotabaya Rajapaksa to immediately initialise a Pandemic Control Committee, under the instructions of the World Health Organisation (WHO). With the sudden surge in Covid positive patients and the fast spreading Delta variant, Wickremesinghe warns of a national catastrophe if measures are not taken seriously. He further stated that Sri Lanka has managed to survive the pandemic so far because of the doctors and medical representatives. “Every individual above the age of 12 years needs to be vaccinated. Wickremesinghe also added that it is not acceptable for the Army to administer vaccines unless it is done under the Ministry of Health.
