Rani Rampal, the India women’s hockey team skipper, is in line to get the prestigious Khel Ratna award. The National Sports Awards ceremony will take place virtually on August 29 due to the ongoing coronavirus pandemic. The National Sports Awards are conferred on athletes every year by the President of India at the Rashtrapati Bhavan on August 29, the National Sports Day. Rampal has taken women’s hockey in India to new heights, securing qualification for the Tokyo Olympics which was postponed due to the coronavirus pandemic. Second time in five yearsThis is the second time since 2016 that four athletes have been finalised for the award.
