In July 1995, 13-year-old Ambia Khatun was hacked to death by a sharp weapon at her home in a village at the district's Mitthapukur Upazila. On Wednesday, the court of additional district and sessions judge convicted 52-year-old Md Shafiuddin for the murder. According to court dossiers, Shafiuddin had land feud with Solaiman Mia of the same village. On Jul 12, 1995, the convict went to Mia's home with a sharp weapon to murder him. He hacked Mia's teenage niece to death after not finding him.
