Rangamati landslide damage yet to be assessed


The Rangamati district administration has yet to come out with a complete assessment of losses from last week’s devastating landslides. At least 116 dead bodies were recovered during the rescue operation which was officially called off on Friday evening. Rangamati Deputy Commissioner Manzarul Mannan told the Dhaka Tribune: “The complete report on the damage was supposed to be prepared by Monday. Ikhtiar Uddin Arafat, assistant commissioner of Rangamati district administration and in-charge of the Rangamati disaster control room, said baby food, clothes and utensils are being distributed among the people in the shelters. Members of the army, police, Border Guard Bangladesh (BGB) and Bangladesh Red Crescent Society are also distributing food among those affected by the landslide across the district.
