The anti-terrorism squad (ATS) of the Rajasthan Police on Tuesday detained a man in Chennai who allegedly transferred funds to the Islamic State through a hawala network, said officials. According to senior ATS officials, the detained person has been identified as Harun and is engaged in money exchange business. “Our teams were sent to Chennai after we got to know about possible involvement of Harun in hawala money trail leading up to the Islamic State. “Preliminary investigation suggests that Harun was acquainted with Iqbal and helped send hawala money intended to fund the Islamic State to UAE,” said Kumar. ATS officials had revealed that Ahmed, who wanted to permanently move to Syria, recently purchased properties worth crores of rupees in Mumbai recently to ensure that his family would live comfortably.
