TAIPEI, Taiwan -- The rainfall that peppered Taiwan in recent days let up on Wednesday as the weather front that brought the moisture headed south to the Bashi Channel, the Central Weather Bureau said Wednesday. The weather front's move south allowed sunlight to peek through the clouds in low-lying areas of western Taiwan on Wednesday, but occasional showers will still hit eastern Taiwan and parts of southern Taiwan that remain affected by the frontal system, the bureau said. Even with the front moving away, mountainous areas in the northern half of Taiwan could experience occasional thundershowers Wednesday, and low-lying areas will see mostly cloudy weather, as will the Penghu, Kinmen and Matsu islands, the bureau forecast. The highs Wednesday will reach 27-29 degrees Celsius in northern and eastern Taiwan areas of the country in the day and 31-32 degrees in the south, the bureau predicted, describing the daytime weather as warm and humid.
