Rain Foils Eliud Kipchoge’s Attempt to Break World Record

BERLIN, NETRALNEWS.COM – The 2016 Olympic gold medalist and Kenyan marathon runner Eliud Kipchoge has failed to complete his ambition to break the world record of 42,195 kilometers at the prestigious event, the 2017 Berlin Marathon, on Sunday (9/24/2017). Kipchoge hit the finish line with a record time of 2 hours, 3 minutes and 32 seconds, or just 35 seconds adrift of the world record on behalf of another Kenyan runner, Dennis Kipruto Kimetto. Before the race began, Kipchoge and several other runners like Wilson Kipsang (Kenya) and Kenenisa Bekele (Ethiopia) had been targeted to surpass Dennis Kimetto's record. However, at the time of the race, it was rain that made Kipchoge difficult to develop his maximum speed. Since the start, the three runners, Kipchoge, Kipsang, and Bekele, are trying to develop speed.
