The Lobito Atlantic Railway connects northwest Zambia across southern DRC to the Benguela rail line in Angola and ultimately to the port of Lobito. The terms of the Reserved Capacity Agreements mark the first long-term commercial commitments to the Lobito Atlantic Railway. In 2022, the Lobito Atlantic Railway consortium, comprising Trafigura, Mota-Engil and Vecturis, was awarded a 30-year concession for the operation, management and maintenance of the Lobito Atlantic Railway (LAR) and for the Lobito Minerals port. Angola, Zambia, DRC rail project to up trade and spur clean energy sectorThe governments of Angola, DRC, Zambia and the US Partnership for Global Infrastructure Investment (PGII) support the railway project to refurbish the Lobito Atlantic Corridor. The investment will enable renovating sections of the railway line and associated infrastructure and secure more than 1,500 wagons and 35 locomotives.
