Raila affirmed that he would be attending the burial ceremony of Mukami Kimathi noting that they were close friends and therefore did not require an invitation. She was among the Mau Mau freedom fighters detained at the Kamiti Maximum Prison during the struggle for independence. She took up a key role in successfully planning tribal dances, targeting young men and women during the Mau Mau rebellion.
