After attaining his Master’s degree in Mechanical Engineering, Odinga returned to Kenya to become a lecturer at the University of Nairobi. In 1982 he was accused of plotting a coup against the then President Daniel Arap Moi and was imprisoned for six years. He has been active in politics since the early ’90s although his four attempts at the Presidency have all ended in defeat.
