Putting all speculations and antics of party leaders to rest, Rahul Gandhi on Wednesday made it clear that he has resigned and is no longer the Congress president. In a letter posted on Twitter, Gandhi, who lost to BJP's Smriti Irani in his family pocket borough Amethi, owned up the party's defeat in the Lok Sabha elections. He said it would be "unjust to hold others" accountable but ignore "my own responsibility" as president of the party. Gandhi suggested colleagues in the Congress Working Committee, the party's decision-making body, to entrust a group of people with the task of beginning the search for a new President. Asking the Congress to radically transform itself, Rahul said, "the Indian nation must unite to reclaim and resuscitate our institutions and the instrument of this resuscitation will be the Congress party."
