Defence Minister Nirmala Sitharaman has said that Congress president Rahul Gandhi is a total failure as a Member of Parliament in Amethi the Lok Sabha constituency in Uttar Pradesh. Mr. Gandhi was claiming that he had set up an ordnance factory in his constituency in 2007 to provide jobs but it started functioning after the intervention of Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Ms. Sitharaman said. Backward districtWhen Mr. Gandhi understood that he would be defeated in Amethi owing to his failure, he tried his luck in Wayanad, one of the 115 backward districts in the country selected by Mr. Modi for his Aspirational District Programme for all-round development, she said. Do you want Wayanad to become a guinea pig in the hands of a failed MP?” Ms. Sitharaman said. The massive support provoked them to attack Mr. Vellappally, Ms. Sitharaman added.
